Mosquito and tick season has officially begun, and the Lebanon County Conservation district has started surveillance. Their program implements various tools and strategies to control mosquito populations. This reduces the transmission of mosquito-borne disease and allows the public to enjoy outdoor spaces. Their integrated mosquito management (IMM) incorporates mosquito surveillance, public outreach and education, source reduction, and larval and adult control.
Two of the trap types they set are pictured below. They ask that you please do not disturb them if you see one. As they set traps and dip standing water throughout the season, Lydia Mohn, the Lebanon County Mosquito-borne Disease Control Program Coordinator, will periodically send municipalities emails with specific statistics including mosquito-borne disease testing results from the samples caught in the traps. You can view county wide statistics on the Lebanon County Conservation District or PA DEP website.
